Perlas Cubanas, Sacando Palo del Monte

Félix Chappottín Lage.Trompetista, cantante y director de orquesta, mas conocido en el mundo artístico como Félix Chapottín, El sonero mayor o El Amstrong del Son Cubano.

Chappottín nació en el barrio habanero de Cayo Hueso el 31 de marzo de 1907, donde creció junto a diez hermanos y uno de crianza: Chano Pozo.

En Guanajay, a donde su tío lo llevó desde los nueve años de edad, Chappottín realizó estudios musicales con Venancio González, y allí se inicia en 1918 como músico de la banda infantil de dicha localidad, donde tocó la caja, la tuba, el bombardino, el cornetín y por último, la trompeta, ingresó en la Banda Infantil de esta localidad con 11 años de edad. .

Casi a punto de arribar a sus veinte años de edad, llegó nuevamente a la capital cubana donde ingresó en el Sexteto Habanero

Chappottín trabajo en comparsas habaneras inducido por su tío Margarito Lage hasta que llegó a dirigir, a la vez que tocaba la trompeta, la comparsa La Chambelona de Guanajay durante diecisiete años. Ingresó en “La Estudiantina Orquídea de Américo González” el año 1924, Trabajó en el Sexteto Colín, en 1927. Fue sustituto del trompetista Rafael Hernández (El piche) en el Sexteto Habanero; posteriormente figuró en otras agrupaciones por ejemplo, el Septeto Colín, Munamar, Universo, Alabama, Boloña, el Septeto Carabina de Ases, Conjunto América, La Gloria Cubana, Orquesta Anacaona.

Chappottín fue integrante también del “Conjunto Azul” que dirigió su hermano de crianza Chano y junto al legendario Jesús Gutiérrez (Tata) organizó el Sexteto Bolero.
